1) It begins with a name. Hello! My name is Hannah Bartell. Some people call me HannahLee (my actual first name) some just call me Hannah-it makes no difference!
2) The Where. I'm from Good Thunder which is a small town in southern Minnesota. It's okay if you call it Bad Lightning, I know you didn't mean it:)
3) Academia. I just recently graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a degree in Social Work.
4) Nine to Five. I work at a group home in St. Paul with 4 women who have disabilities--I really love that job, there's nothing quiet like it. I also work back home preparing housing for college students in the fall! I have a lot of great and disgusting cleaning stories that you wouldn't believe.
5) Killing Time.
-I like doing things I have never done before.
-I love pretending I can break dance
-I am currently reading the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
-I just love my family--there are 7 of us kids (I'm number 6!) and I'm up to 12 nieces and nephews--with one in the oven! We spend a lot of time together being the funny and unique people we love to be.
-I love to be active--running, playing tennis/raquetball or anything that makes me move
-I enjoy a good discussion--where honesty, understanding and a willingness to view something from a new perspective all come together
-And I like to laugh, good for the heart
6) The Important Stuff.
Dislikes: wiggly bacon. Thats pretty much it--wiggly bacon.
Well, what's the most important to me is God my Savior, and learning about His heart for justice, love and mercy for His people. Like all of you, I am digging into the injustices of human-trafficking and hope to continue making an impact (while being impacted) in Cambodia and in the U.S. once we return.
And, I love cheese...and lemonade. Oh for goodness sakes, I love Cambodia and the people there too!
7) Previous Experience. I have been to Reynosa, Mexico for a missions trip (only 10 days long) and I've been to Cambodia! I went to Cambodia through Bethel University for about 4 weeks this past January. Amazing experience that is too big for words, but I would love to share any of that experience with anyone who wants to know!
8) The Nit N' Gritty. I am pumped for Cambodia! It's going to be a good and wonderful thing to see what God chooses to do with our team. However, I am praying for strength, courage, and love--its a challenging thing we are about to face and it demands a lot from our team. I think sadness and devestation over Cambodia's history and some of the suffering that is taking place today, can make you feel defeated. But we have so much to look forward to! God promised that He will have the victory even in something as dark as sex trafficking. Our God is a God of love and of justice and He is choosing us as His tools! Sweet! We have so much to learn and so many to serve-can't wait.
